Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using RentersRant ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. We may update these terms at any time; continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or submit reviews. By using the Service, you represent that you meet this requirement.

3. Reviews and User Content

RentersRant allows tenants to submit honest reviews of rental properties based on their personal rental experiences. By submitting content, you agree to the following:

  • Your review must be based on your own genuine, first-hand rental experience at the property.
  • You may not submit reviews for properties where you have not personally resided or rented.
  • Your content must not be defamatory, harassing, threatening, or knowingly false.
  • You may not include personal identifying information about individuals (names, contact details, etc.).
  • Commercial reviews, reviews submitted for compensation, and coordinated review campaigns are prohibited.
  • You may not use the Service to retaliate against landlords for lawful conduct.

4. Content Moderation

We reserve the right to remove, edit, or refuse to publish any content that violates these terms or that we determine, in our sole discretion, is harmful, false, or inappropriate. We use automated tools including AI-assisted moderation to help enforce these standards. Removal of content is not an admission of liability.

5. Platform Status — Section 230

RentersRant is an interactive computer service and a platform, not a publisher or speaker of user-submitted content. All reviews are created by third-party users, not by RentersRant. Under Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act (47 U.S.C. § 230), RentersRant is not treated as the publisher or speaker of any information provided by users and is not liable for user-generated content. This protection does not extend to content that violates federal criminal law or intellectual property law.

6. DMCA / Copyright Claims

If you believe content on RentersRant infringes your copyright, you may submit a DMCA takedown notice using the "Flag" button on the relevant review, selecting "DMCA / copyright claim," and including: (1) identification of the copyrighted work; (2) identification of the infringing material and its location; (3) your contact information; (4) a statement of good faith belief that the use is unauthorized; and (5) a statement under penalty of perjury that the information is accurate and that you are authorized to act on behalf of the copyright owner. We will respond to valid notices promptly.

7. Intellectual Property

By submitting content to RentersRant, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to display, reproduce, and distribute your content as part of the Service. You retain ownership of your content. The RentersRant platform, design, and branding are owned by us and may not be reproduced without permission.

8. Anonymity and Identity

Reviews are displayed anonymously. Your email address is never shown publicly on the Service. However, we may be required to disclose user information in response to valid legal process, such as a court order or subpoena. Anonymity is a platform feature, not a legal shield for defamatory or unlawful content.

9. Prohibited Uses

You agree not to:

  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or systematically harvest data from the Service.
  • Create accounts using false identities or on behalf of third parties without authorization.
  • Interfere with the Service's infrastructure, security, or availability.
  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose.

10. Disclaimer of Warranties

Reviews on RentersRant reflect the personal opinions and experiences of individual users. We do not verify the accuracy of user-submitted content. The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We make no representations about the completeness, accuracy, or reliability of any review.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, RentersRant and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service or reliance on any content posted here. Our total liability in any matter arising from these terms shall not exceed $100 USD.

12. Third-Party Services

The Service uses third-party providers including Supabase (database and authentication) and Google Maps Platform (address lookup). Your use of these features is also subject to their respective terms of service and privacy policies.

13. Account Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account at any time for violation of these terms. You may delete your account at any time by contacting us. Upon termination, your reviews may remain on the platform in anonymized form.

14. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States. Any disputes shall be resolved in the appropriate courts of competent jurisdiction.
