Privacy Policy

1. Overview

RentersRant is built around renter privacy. Your email is used only to prevent spam and authenticate your account — it is never displayed publicly on any review. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how we protect it.

2. Information We Collect

Information you provide:

• Email address — collected when you create an account. Used solely for authentication and abuse prevention. Never shown on your reviews or shared with landlords.
• Review content — the text, ratings, and dates you submit when posting a review. Reviews are published anonymously.
• Property addresses — addresses you look up or submit when adding a property to the platform.

Information collected automatically:

• IP address and basic request metadata — logged by our infrastructure provider for security and spam prevention. Not linked to your public identity.
• Session tokens — stored in browser cookies to keep you signed in.

3. How We Use Your Information

• To authenticate your account and prevent multiple or fake accounts.
• To associate reviews with an account for moderation purposes (abuse removal, spam filtering).
• To display your reviews anonymously to other users.
• To run AI-assisted content moderation to enforce our review guidelines.
• To respond to legal obligations, including valid legal process.

We do not sell your data. We do not use your information for advertising or marketing purposes.

4. Anonymity

Your email address is never displayed on reviews or property pages. Reviews are attributed only to an anonymous account identifier. Other users — including landlords — cannot determine who wrote a review from the information shown on the platform.

However, we retain the internal association between your account and your reviews. This is necessary to allow you to delete your own content and for us to enforce our Terms of Service. We may disclose this information if compelled by valid legal process.

5. Third-Party Services

We rely on the following third-party services to operate:

• Supabase — database and authentication provider. Your account data and reviews are stored on Supabase infrastructure. See Supabase's Privacy Policy.
• Google Maps Platform — used for address autocomplete when searching or adding a property. Address queries are sent to Google. See Google's Privacy Policy.
• Anthropic Claude — used for AI-assisted content moderation of submitted reviews. Review text may be sent to Anthropic's API for this purpose. See Anthropic's Privacy Policy.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account and associated reviews for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your email and account data are removed. Reviews you submitted may remain on the platform in fully anonymized form (not linked to any account or email). Backups may retain data for up to 90 days after deletion.

7. Cookies

We use session cookies solely to keep you signed in. We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party analytics cookies. You can clear cookies at any time via your browser settings, which will sign you out of the Service.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Delete your account and request removal of your personal data.
• Update your email address via account settings.
• Withdraw consent to data processing (which means closing your account).

9. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

We do not sell personal information as defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). California residents have the right to: (1) know what personal information we collect and how it is used; (2) request deletion of their personal information; and (3) non-discrimination for exercising these rights. To submit a data access or deletion request, contact us at the address in Section 12. We will respond within 45 days.

10. Children's Privacy

RentersRant is not directed to children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us immediately.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will note the updated date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be communicated via the Service. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
